NEC presents its latest i-modeTM handsets at 3GSM 2005

Tokyo and London, February 8, 2005- NEC Corporation (NEC) will exhibit its range of 2.5G (i-mode) devices at this year’s 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, showcasing the latest additions to its 2005 European i-mode handset product roadmap. Demonstrating its ongoing commitment to furthering its market share in the European i-mode mobile handset market, NEC will showcase the N411i, N401i, N342i and N343i.
 
NEC is at the forefront of i-mode innovation and development and is the largest i-mode handset manufacturer in the world, supplying NTT DoCoMo in Japan with i-mode handsets since 1999. Using the experience gained in the Japanese market, NEC was the first manufacturer to deliver i-mode handsets to operators in Europe and has delivered i-mode handsets to KPN Mobile in the Netherlands, E-Plus in Germany, BASE in Belgium, WIND in Italy, Bouygues in France, Telefonica in Spain and COSMOTE in Greece.
 
The clamshell, 1.3 megapixel NEC N411i has an integrated MPEG4 video camera and features Bluetooth(TM) connectivity. The N411i also boasts PictBridge connectivity which allows users to print out their photos directly through a PictBridge compatible printer. The main 1.9 inch, 176x220 pixel, 65,536 colour TFT screen and second external 1 inch, 128x289 pixel, 4,096 colour screen means that videos and photographs can be displayed to full effect. The addition of an in-built MP3 player means users can listen to their favourite music on the move and the handset also features 64-channel polyphonic ringtones.
 
The NEC N401i is a sleek clamshell handset weighing 90g. Users can download the latest 40-channel polyphonic ringtones and listen to their favourite music using the in-built MP3 player. The N401i’s integrated MPEG4 video camera incorporates a nightlight for use in any conditions, enabling users to shoot and send video clips via MMS. The video phonebook allows incoming calls to be personalised with a video clip of the caller and the digital 4x zoom camera offers high-resolution still images to be captured and shared. The main 1.9 inch, 176x220 pixel, 65,536 colour QVGA TFT screen ensures optimum viewing of content and there is a second 4,096 colour external screen with clock and 12 colour backlight.
 
The N342i is a compact, lightweight (90g), clamshell handset sporting a 1.8 inch, 128x160 pixels, 65,536 colour screen and a second external 1 inch, 96x64 pixels, mono screen.  With an integrated VGA 300K pixel camera, the N342i allows users to take pictures wherever they are and includes the capability to store up to sixteen 40-channel polyphonic ringtones.
 
Each of NEC’s i-mode handset delivers optimum functionality to the consumer through their support of the rich variety of i-mode content and services. All handsets have inbuilt DoJa(TM) technology to download the latest games and applications, have USB connectivity and are GPRS enabled for fast Internet connection. All NEC’s latest i-mode handsets boast triband functionality allowing the user to stay connected in five continents - ideal for the regular traveller.
 
Live demonstrations of the handsets features and capabilities will take place at the NEC Stand throughout 3GSM. These demonstrations will capture the essence of i-mode by exhibiting a range of i-mode content available on the handsets.
