London, Tokyo, 6th October, 2006 ---- NEC announced today that
it will exhibit an innovative lineup of intelligent transport
systems (ITS) and services at ITS World Congress 2006, taking place
at ExCel London, UK, from October 8 – 12, 2006. The ITS World
Congress has rotated between Europe, the Americas and the
Asia-Pacific region since it was established in 1994 and is
renowned for its support throughout the ITS world in government,
industry and other organizations. Through attendance NEC aims to
cultivate new business and contribute to the solving of global
transport issues through discussion on technology and market
trends.
NEC’s theme at this year’s congress is “Developing a Ubiquitous
Transportation Society.” Its broad lineup includes solutions,
platforms, and individual and device technologies, which offer
added value to all of the key players in the market, including
pedestrians, drivers and cars.
NEC’s exhibits will include the following:
(1) Pedestrian Support Service
Solutions
InfoSignTM, a product jointly developed by NEC and NEC Engineering,
enables a navigation service for pedestrians even underground and
indoors where GPS is not available through use of a mobile phone
employing Bluetooth® *1technology. In addition, information on
shops and commercial goods can be provided to pedestrians. ROUTE
BUILDERTM, software that enables creation of route information,
will also be exhibited by NEC with NEC Software Chubu. This
software enables creation of original maps connecting floor plans
to public maps, resulting in realization of an original navigation
system for pedestrians from door to door.
(2) Driver Support Service Solutions
NEC’s probe information system supplies real-time information such
as estimated travel times to drivers by analyzing the probe vehicle
data collected by sensors on board moving vehicles. The system
employs data mining technology that is designed to identify trends
within a large amount of accumulated vehicle movement data and
extrapolate useful information. Working in real time, this system
offers a more accurate and wider range of information than
conventional car navigation systems. NEC’s automotive mobile
router, which enables network connection of vehicles, will also be
on display, as well as a system employing it that was developed
with NEC’s European laboratories, Car to Car communication
system.
(3) Solutions for
Roadside Business
For more than 13 million users of electronic toll collection (ETC)
on-board equipment (OBE) in Japan, NEC & NEC Engineering, Ltd
will provide equipment enabling customer relation management and
vehicle entry/exit management by the end of March, 2007. The
equipment will be realized by joining a small roadside device,
specializing in the reading of the equipment number of the ETC OBE
and the wireless call number, to servers in shops. This will be
jointly exhibited by NEC and NEC Engineering Ltd.
(Note: this system cannot be applied to ETC of toll roads.)
(4) Technology
In recent years automotive safety protection systems have been
drawing attention with an increase in measures to decrease the
number of deaths caused by automobile accidents. NEC Electronics
Corporation will exhibit a demonstration of the system LSI IMAPCAR®
(moving image recognition processor), which realizes real-time
image recognition of white lines, cars and pedestrians toward safer
driving.
NEC hopes to contribute to the progression of innovative
intelligent transport systems through its attendance at the ITS
World Congress and will continue to actively carry out research and
development of innovative technologies.
