Tokyo, August 31, 2007 ---NEC Corporation announced the launch the "PASOLINK NEO/c," a new product line of ultra-compact point to point microwave communication systems "PASOLINK" series.
The "PASOLINK NEO," which has been available since February of last year, is designed with a common platform for applications ranging from low to high traffic capacity, so that it can respond flexibly to a wide range of needs for capacity increases. The new "PASOLINK NEO/c", is specially designed for low-capacity systems with traffic capacities of 40MB or less. Furthermore, because the NEO/c is approximately 20% smaller than the PASOLINK NEO, it requires less space, and installation is considerably easier.
With these two product lines, NEC will be able to respond to the increasingly complex and diverse network-related needs of communication carriers, and to provide even more outstanding and economical solutions than ever before.
NEC also announced that the cumulative overseas shipment volume of PASOLINK surpassed the 600, 000 unit mark (in 126 countries) at the end of July 2007.
Since its debut in early 1980, NEC has been promoting research, development, and sales of the PASOLINK and its cumulative shipment reached 200,000 units in 2004. With the rapid growth of the mobile handsets market, the PASOLINK has seen a dramatic increase in shipment volumes to mobile operators throughout the world, as a communication system that connects the various base stations and achieved 500,000 cumulative shipments in February 2007. Sales have been growing even more rapid pace after February 2007, due mainly to blanket contracts with mobile operators in various countries in Asia and Middle East including India, which is currently experiencing exceptional economic growth, and surpassed 600,000 units in 5 months. NEC is currently recognized as one of the world's top suppliers in this field.
Given the rapid growth in the number of mobile phone subscribers, the global expansion of mobile Internet services, and the startup of the broadband access market, the demand for PASOLINK as a means of connecting base stations, and for improved performance, is expected to increase even further in the future. NEC will continue to undertake product development and sales activities as a leading company in the field of ultra-compact microwave communication systems.
