NEC Laboratories Europe celebrates its 10th Anniversary

NEC to host commemorative symposium conducted by univeristy professors from various countires

TOKYO, Heidelberg and London, April 30, 2008 - Tokyo, Heidelberg and London, , April 30, 2008- 'NEC Laboratories Europe', the European R&D centre for network technologies, was established as 'Network Laboratories' in Heidelberg, Germany in April 1998. In commemoration, NEC Laboratories is hosting a 10th Anniversary Symposium today to which it has invited around 50 representatives from various fields from universities and companies in Europe.

NEC Laboratories Europe maintains three facilities; in Heidelberg andSankt Augustin in Germany and in London in the UK. The Network Research Division located in Heidelberg and London (Acton) focuses on R&D for network technologies and standardization activities, while the IT Research Division in Sankt Augustin focuses on R&D for IT technologies such as the development of simulation technologies using supercomputers and IT services basic technologies.

On its 10th Anniversary, the Network Research Division of NECLaboratories Europe can present numerous successes, including an IP Telephony Security Framework called VoIP SEAL(TM), Car-2-Car communication technology for ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems), and Identity Management technologies (developed jointly with NEC Central Research Laboratories, CRL in Japan).

On 1st April, the Standardization Promotion Centre Europe, SPCE, wasestablished at NEC Europe Ltd. (London, UK; President & CEO: Toshiyuki Mineno) to conduct the company's standardization activities in Europe. The Centre was set up in order to conduct strategic standardization activities in cooperation with NEC Laboratories Europe: complementing the standardization activities conducted at NEC Laboratories Europe in cooperation with the NEC Corporations operations division such as 3GPP, TISPAN, OMA, IETF and IEEE (see Note 1).
